Premier Matteo Renzi said Monday the government will make 60 million euros available to Italy's Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) "in the coming weeks". "The money is there," Renzi during a visit to the underground lab located between the Abruzzo towns of L'Aquila and Teramo. Housed 1,400 metres deep within the Gran Sasso mountain, the LNGS is the largest underground facility worldwide for experiments in particle physics, particle astrophysics and nuclear astrophysics. It is used by scientists from around the world.
"We must not continue in fear of a world without borders, but we must make sure our institutes are at the vanguard," Renzi told researchers at the LNGS.
