Rome prosecutors have opened a
probe into the events leading up to the ouster of former Rome
mayor Ignazio Marino of the Democratic Party last autumn.
No suspects have been identified or charges laid.
The proceedings centre on alleged threats to city
councillors from PD chairman and party commissioner in Rome
Matteo Orfini to induce them to resign, toppling Marino's
executive in the process.
The alleged threats were reported by the Huffington Post on
October 25 and 29.
Orfini was key in orchestrating Marino's downfall in the
wake of an expenses scandal, amid resistance from the
beleaguered former PD Senator and transplant surgeon.
