Rightwing Northern league leader
Massimo Salvini on Thursday said the League might pull is
backing from Guido Bertolaso, the centre-right candidate for
Rome mayoral elections in June. He said that Bertolaso's
comments on "the Roma, (former centre-left Rome mayor) Francesco
Rutelli and the (ruling Democratic Party) PD" have not been the
top for the League". "I won't buy a pig in a poke," said
Salvini, appearing to pull back from the endorsement he gave
along with Forza Italia chief Silvio Berlusconi and Fratelli
d'Italia chief Giorgia Meloni. Salvini said Bertolaso was "a
candidate proposed by our allies". He said "what the people of
Rome say in the next few days will influence my final decision".
Asked if the candidacy issue was still open, he replied "every
issue is always open".
