President Sergio Mattarella said
on Holocaust Remembrance Day Wednesday that "Auschwitz reminds
us what horrors man can be capable of". He stressed the
importance of realising that even today, "aberrant theories,
hatred and fanaticism spill innocent blood in so many parts of
the world". Mattarella warned against the dangers of "other
deadly types of racism, discrimination and intolerance that are
spread via the Web". The president also recalled that Italy had
not been immune from the "virus" of racism and that the "shame
of Fascist racial laws should be remembered.
