Veteran Italian television presenter Pippo Baudo was sent to trial by a Rome judge on Tuesday for allegedly defaming a woman convicted of a drugs charge on three TV shows in 2014. Defamation is a crime in Italy. The case regards comments Baudo, 80, made about Federica Gagliardi, the so-called 'White Lady' who was convicted to three years, four months in jail by a Naples court of first instance after being caught at Rome's Fiumicino airport in possession of 24 kilos of cocaine. The defamation trial is set to start on February 21, 2018.
