(ANSA) Rome, November 24 - Italian writer, actor and
director Vittorio Sermonti has died aged 87.
Sermonti passed away in Rome's Sandro Pertini hospital on
Wednesday evening.
During his long career Sermonti directed 120 productions for
radio, working with actors of the caliber of Renzo Ricci,
Vittorio Gassman, Carmelo Bene, Paolo Poli and Valeria Moriconi.
He was also a prolific essayist and fiction writer and his
last novel, 'Se avessero', was shortlisted for the Strega Prize,
Italy's most prestigious award for literary fiction.
He was passionate about the 14th-century epic poet Dante
Alighieri and his critical commentary of the Divine Comedy won
public acclaim.
