The three-day national conference of the Association of Italian Cultural Institutions (AICI) has wrapped up in the Tuscan city of Lucca with participants calling for innovation and a greater presence abroad.
The third such conference over the weekend was attended by, among others, Italian cultural ministry chief of staff Giampaolo D'Andrea, the president of the Senate culture committee Andrea Marcucci, the director general for cooperation and development of the foreign ministry, Pietro Sebastiani, the deputy governor of Tuscany, Monica Barni and Beppe Vacca, president of the Gramsci foundation, who discussed the issues presented by AICI president, Valdo Spini.
Spini said that AICI has worked over the past three years to promote a network of cultural institutions and has 110 members.
It has also vied to "promote the development of culture and scientific and technical research, in line with article nine of the constitution".
He added that the association will work with the cultural ministry on a "pact for culture" and that institutions that are part of the association will offer to host university courses and training programs "as part of a European civil service".
