The three-day national
conference of the Association of Italian Cultural Institutions
(AICI) has wrapped up in the Tuscan city of Lucca with
participants calling for innovation and a greater presence
abroad.
The third such conference over the weekend was attended by,
among others, Italian cultural ministry chief of staff Giampaolo
D'Andrea, the president of the Senate culture committee Andrea
Marcucci, the director general for cooperation and development
of the foreign ministry, Pietro Sebastiani, the deputy governor
of Tuscany, Monica Barni and Beppe Vacca, president of the
Gramsci foundation, who discussed the issues presented by AICI
president, Valdo Spini.
Spini said that AICI has worked over the past three years
to promote a network of cultural institutions and has 110
members.
It has also vied to "promote the development of culture and
scientific and technical research, in line with article nine of
the constitution".
He added that the association will work with the cultural
ministry on a "pact for culture" and that institutions that are
part of the association will offer to host university courses
and training programs "as part of a European civil service".
