Writer Ermanno Rea died Tuesday
in Rome at the age of 89.
Naples-born Rea wrote several books based in his home town,
notably the autobiographical novel Mistero Napolitano
(Neapolitan Mystery) which won the Viareggio Prize in 1996.
He also won the Campiello Prize in 1999 with Fuochi
fiammanti a un' hora di notte (Flaming fires at a time of
night).
Rea was a finalist for the Strega Prize in 2008 with Napoli
ferrovia (Naples railway).
His last work was Il caso Piegari (The Piegari case) in
2014.
