State-run museums across Italy
registered a high visitor turnout for the free entrance on
Sunday dedicated to the Rio Olympics, the culture ministry has
said.
For the monthly appointment museums had been instructed to
display artworks and other items on the theme of sport.
"The Italian cultural heritage is supporting our
athletes... through this important promotional campaign that
also sends a global message about the extraordinary nature and
variety of Italian museum collections and the universal values
of sport," Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said.
Entry to State-run museums, monuments and archaeological
areas in Italy is free on the first Sunday of every month.
