A 22-year-old worker was killed in a
workplace accident at Scafati near Salerno Friday by a metal
slab that slipped off the winch he was using in a building in
the centre of the town.
He died instantly.
The young man was working on some scaffolding in an apartment
block that was undergoing restructuring work.
He is the latest in a long string of fatal workplace accidents
in Italy that has spurred union protests.
Five men died after inhaling toxic gas in a sewer network near
Palermo earlier this month, and seven died in a hydro power
plant blast near Bologna last month.
