Italian police have made an
arrest in the case of a dead body found in a farm building
outside Pombia near Novara last week.
Antonio Lembo, 28, was arrested in the murder of Matteo
Mendola, a 35-year-old with a criminal record.
Both are from Busto Arsizio north of Milan.
Police think the murder happened after a row over divvying up
the proceeds of recent robberies at the abandoned farmhouse,
which the pair were using as a hide-out.
Lembo allegedly fired two shots at Mendola and hit him in the
head with the butt of his gun about a dozen times.
"It was a particularly ferocious crime," said Novara chief
prosecutor Marilinda Mineccia.
Police homed in on Lembo after examining phone calls and
hearing that the pair were set to meet.
Lembo tried to flee but was caught, and confessed.
