Three doctors were
convicted Tuesday in the death of former Italy Under 21
international Piermario Morosini during a Serie B soccer match
for Livorno at Pescara in April 2012.
Pescara team doctor Ernesto Sabatini and Livorno team
physician Manlio Percellini got eight months each and emergency
medic Vito Molfese got one year in jail.
All the sentences were suspended.
The three convicted were also sentenced, along with Pescara
health authority and Pescara Calcio soccer club, to pay a
provisional 150,000 euros in compensation for Morosini's death.
The three were the first to assist 25-year-old Morosini
after he collapsed on the field following a heart attack.
Lawyers for the three said they were "surprised" at the
verdict and would appeal.
