Operations resumed Tuesday to
recover the body of Silvio Anzola, one of three divers who died
Friday after getting trapped in a very deep underwater cave at
Palinuro near Salerno.
Operations had to be suspended yesterday afternoon due to
adverse weather conditions.
The bodies of Mauro Cammardella, the owner of a local
diving centre and Mauro Tancredi, another local man, were
recovered Sunday.
Because of the depth of the cave, speleologists from the
fire brigade are assisting in the recovery efforts.
Anzola was from Milan.
The three, who were among eight divers, were reportedly on
a training dive. The other five resurfaced safely.
Rescue services located the bodies Friday after a four-hour
search. They had failed to re-emerge after the dive at around
10:00 that morning.
