A water taxi sliced a boat in
two in Venice Tuesday night injuring three young people on board
the boat, two of them seriously. The accident happened between
the islands of San Servolo and Certosa. The boat is believed to
have been travelling without lights and reportedly did not give
right of way to the taxi which hit and sank it. The three young
people, all from Venice, ended up in the water. One of them, a
man aged 24, suffered chest trauma and was taken to the
intensive care unit of Mestre Hospital. Another young man, 21,
was taken to the same hospital with a broken leg and concussion.
The third passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was treated in
hospital and then discharged. The taxi's pilot was slightly
hurt.
