A man belonging to the infamous
Casamonica clan died in an explosion after setting fire to the
Rome villa belonging to another family member on Sunday.
Nicandro Casamonica, 27, was allegedly taking revenge after
his sister eloped with the son of the villa's owner, Raffaele
Casamonica, on Saturday night.
The explosion occurred in the Ciampino area south of the
capital, where the Casamonica have a stronghold.
Casamonica's charred body was found in the courtyard of the
two-storey villa, which was partly destroyed in the blast.
The villa was empty at the time and no-one else was hurt.
The episode comes almost a year after the grandiose funeral
of mobster Vittorio Casamonica at a Rome church and subsequent
appearance of two clan members on State TV RAI's flagship
current affairs show Porta a Porta caused a public outcry.
