A 16-year-old Roman boy who
was found unconscious early on Sunday outside a holiday complex
in Ostuni, near the southern city of Brindisi, was involved in a
car accident, prosecutors said on Monday.
Brindisi prosecutor Marco Dinapoli said the authorities
knew the owner of the car and the person who was driving it when
the accident happened, but did not reveal further details.
The boy, who was on holiday with his family, is in
hospital in Brindisi in coma after injuries to the head caused a
brain hemorrhage, as well as injuries to his face and neck.
At first there was uncertainly about how he had come to
have those injuries, amid speculation he may have been involved
in a fall or attacked.
Tests showed he had been drinking alcohol.
