Finance police on Monday searched
offices and seized documents in connection with contracts for
work done on Rome's metro C line.
Rome prosecutors are investigating several former
executives at Roma Metropolitane contractor for abuse of office
in connection with the C line, which went 700 million euros over
budget.
The Audit Court in 2012 said corruption may have had a hand
in the "unacceptable costs, which almost tripled".
A recent report by the National Anti-Corruption Authority
(ANAC) has identified 45 deviations from the original plan
introduced following archeological finds but "without adequate
prior investigation"; an additional 65 million euros awarded to
the Metro C project for work that was already included in the
initial budget; "lack of transparency and efficiency", and
unreasonable "advantages in favor of the general contractor".
