Italy ranks among the lowest
countries in the European Union in terms of the number and
education level of employees in the cultural sector, according
to data on 2014 released by European statistics agency Eurostat
on Wednesday.
Eurostat said that, although Italy ranks fourth in the EU
for the number of employees in the sector with 602,000 people,
these workers only represent 2.7% of the workforce - well under
the EU average of 2.9% and eighth among the 28 members.
Italy also ranks seventh for the lowest number of women
employed in the cultural sector, or 45% against an EU average of
47%.
It also ranks next to last, ahead of Malta (49%), for the
lowest level of education in the sector with only 43% of
university graduates compared to a European average of 60%.
