President Sergio Mattarella on
Wednesday marked the start of the post-Ramadan Eid Al Fitr fest
with an appeal "to isolate extremists and together build a
future of peace". He said "at a time when distorted views of
religious faith produce unspeakable grief and huge suffering,
the celebrations for the end of Ramadan must call us, once
again, to an attentive and active reflection on the importance
of dialogue, tolerance and respect for the rule of law".
Mattarella on Tuesday evening met the coffins of the nine
victims of Friday's terror attacks in Dhaka as they returned to
Rome from the Banlagdeshi capital. The attack killed 20 hostages
in all, including seven Japanese.
