The number of people legally
resident in Italy at the end of 2015 fell over the previous year
for the first time in 90 years, national statistics agency Istat
said Friday.
Italy had 60,665,551 residents on December 31, down 130,061
over year end 2014.
The drop concerned only the resident Italian population,
which fell by 141,777, while the number of resident foreigners
rose by 11,716.
Foreigners accounted for 8.3% of residents at national
level and 10.6% across central and northern regions.
