Dutchman Tom Dumoulin grabbed the
pink jersey on the first day of the 99th Giro d'Italia by
winning a 9.8-km time trial in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn.
Dumoulin outsprinted Slovenia's Primoz Roglic, who was given the
same as the winner, 11' 03''. Costa Rica's Andrej Amador was
third, six seconds back. Pre-race favourite Fabian Cancellara
came eighth, 14 seconds behind. Giro favourite Vincenzo
Nibali of Italy clocked 11' 22'', 19 seconds behind Dumoulin.
