Premier Matteo Renzi said Wednesday
the anti-immigrant Northern League was fomenting migrant fears
while the government was defending dignity. "There are 155,000
people who arrived last year, you prefer to say "scrounging
refugees and say we went to get them in the sea. Yes it's true
because when a man or woman risks drowning we are on the side of
dignity. You choose fear, we are on the side of dignity," he
said. Renzi said "you defend the national interest by defending
values and not following your ghosts". The premier was replying
at question time to a League question on immigration.
