Ships rescued just over 2,800
migrants in the Strait of Sicily and transported them to Italian
ports on Wednesday.
Four ships were involved in the rescue of 2,322 migrants
who were taken to the ports of Augusta, Trapani, Messina, and
Reggio Calabria.
An Italian Navy plane sighted an Egyptian boat with about
300 migrants aboard who were rescued by a mercantile ship and
will be transferred to a Frontex operation ship.
A Coast Guard ship intercepted another Egyptian boat
carrying 250 migrants off the southeast coast of Sicily and will
transport the migrants to Reggio Calabria.
