Waste and the swindling of
public money cost the State over four billion euros in 2015,
according to the annual report of Italy's finance police, which
was published on Thursday.
Public contracts with a combined value of over one billion
euros, almost one third of the total, were awarded in an illegal
way in 2015, the report said.
The force said it checked and monitored public tenders
with a combined value of 3.5 billion euros.
Furthermore, the finance police reported 1,474 people to
prosecutors and arrested 73.
