A finance police officer was
placed under house arrest on Monday for allegedly appropriating
4 kilos of cocaine from a vault containing seized items at the
barracks where he was posted.
Francesco Nasta faces charges of possessing drugs with
intent to supply, fraudulent misrepresentation and embezzlement
in relation to the alleged offence at the barracks in Aversa in
the Campania province of Caserta.
The investigation stems from a probe into the death by
overdose in February 2013 of another finance police officer at
the Aversa barracks, Felice Stringile, who replaced Nasta in
2012 when the latter was transferred.
The autopsy and toxicological examination showed that the
drugs had come from inside the barracks.
Investigators subsequently established that 4 kilos of
cocaine had been removed from the vault while Nasta was in
charge.
