Police in the Italian town of
Seregno, just north of Milan, arrested a 35-year-old Romanian
man on Monday who was wanted by German authorities for illegal
transport of Syrian immigrants.
The man had been arrested last October in Germany while
attempting to cross the country with nine Syrian immigrants
packed into a van, having entered from Italy.
He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to one year in
prison in Germany for aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
Following his conviction he evaded German authorities and
returned to Italy, and is now in prison in Monza awaiting
extradition.
