Lufthansa and the Italian economy
ministry have submitted a "more extensive" package of
commitments to the European Commission in order to get the green
light for a merger between the German airline and Italian flag
carrier ITA, European and German sources close to the dossier
said Wednesday.
Among the new proposals to respond to EU competition concerns
are further concessions on slots at Milan-Linate, while the
proposal to freeze the alliance between Carsten Spohr's company
and the newco risen from the ashes of Alitalia for two years
remains more or less unchanged for long routes from Fiumicino to
North America.
The EC has set a deadline of July 4 for approving or rejecting
the deal.
Negotiations with Brussels will continue in the coming hours,
the sources said.
