Real GDP at the end of 2023 was back
to its pre-financial crisis level of 2007, Istat said Wednesday.
The real GDP (that in volume) in Italy has only returned to 2007
levels by the end of 2023: in 15 years there has been a growth
gap of more than 10 points with Spain, 14 with France and 17
with Germany, the national stats agency said in its annual
report.
Compared to 2000, the gap with France and Germany is over 20
percentage points, and over 30 points with Spain.
Looking at nominal GDP between 2019 and 2023, the report said
Italy is the economy growing at a higher rate among the four
largest EU countries with +4.2 per cent at the end of 2023 over
the last quarter of 2019 (compared to +2.9% in Spain, +1.9% in
France and +0.1% in Germany).
