The Italian economy has regained the
ground it lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic after registering
GDP growth of 1% in the second quarter of this year, the economy
ministry said on Friday.
It said this took Italy's GDP above the average level of 2019.
ISTAT said earlier on Friday that Italy's GDP accelerated in the
second quarter, increasing by 1% with respect to the first three
months of the year and 4.6% compared to the same period in 2021.
Italy's GDP had risen by just 0.1% in the first quarter with
respect to the fourth quarter of last year.
The better-than-expected showing prompted the national
statistics agency to raise its growth forecast for 2022 to 2.6%,
up 0.1 of a percentage point on the prediction it made in May.
