Claudio Tarlazzi, the secretary
general of the transport arm of the UIL trade union, said
Wednesday that talks with Alitalia over its plan to turn the
loss-making airline around had been suspended.
"The company suspended negotiations," Tarlazzi said.
"It was a unilateral decision and the talks have not broken
down, but have been suspended".
Unions are unhappy about the plan, which features the loss
of around 2,000 jobs.
"The unions presented a single position on flight staff and
the company considered this insufficient," Tarlazzi said.
"We have asked that the negotiations now take a different
direction and go from the technical to the political, as it is
not possible to continue in this way".
