A new privacy policy adopted
by Facebook and WhatsApp "is a cause for serious concern as far
as personal data protection", Italian privacy watchdog chief
Antonello Soro told ANSA on Tuesday.
"The massive flow of data not only affects Facebook and
WhatsApp users, it also extends to those who aren't signed up
with either, simply because their name shows up in the phone
book of a WhatsApp user," Soro explained.
"This can occur without consent from those affected," he
added.
"WhatsApp's new rules appear to preclude the possibility of
separate consent to each different option, so users are de facto
obliged to accept the conditions for data exchange as one
block," he said.
"Let's see if Facebook and WhatsApp will decide in a
responsible and autonomous way, to suspend this program as a
guarantee to users," the privacy czar said.
