The first priority of
struggling Tuscan lender Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) is to
strengthen bank capital, Marco Morelli said in a video message
to employees on the eve of taking over as bank CEO and General
Manager on Tuesday.
"The first priority is strengthening capital and
implementing safety measures, because these are the bases for
working on our industrial plan and consolidating a sustainable
and competitive bank model," Morelli said.
The former head of Bofa Merrill Lynch Italia also said he
had accepted the nomination in the knowledge that "the bank's
future holds big opportunities once this difficult moment is
behind us".
