The underground economy added
to illegal activities rose to 206.4 billion euros or 12.9% of
GDP in 2013, Istat said Tuesday, compared to 12.7% in 2012 and
12.4% in 2011. "There was an upward trend in the three-year
period and let's remember that 2011 and 2012 were years of
strong recession, which may have contributed," said Istat's head
of national accounts, Gian Paolo Oneto.
