Italians have low expectations
about the Italy's situation and its high unemployment rate,
Confesercenti retailers' association said Monday after new data
from Istat national statistics bureau showed a steep drop in
August business and consumer confidence.
"Concern over the economy weighs on business and citizen
confidence, placing the weak recovery in consumption at risk,"
the group said in a statement.
Business and consumer confidence were 10 points lower
during the economic crisis in August 2013, Confesercenti pointed
out.
But the drop is "of concern anyway", the association said.
"An almost structural climate of no-confidence in the
country's future seems to have consolidated itself, which could
lead to a new slowing down in family spending in the latter part
of the year," the group concluded.
