Media companies Sky, Mediaset and Rai made about 90% of revenues in the Italian television market in 2015, media watchdog Agcom said in a report on Tuesday.
Broadcaster Sky remained in the lead, holding a 32.5% share of the market in 2015. Mediaset was in second place with a 28.4% share and Rai was close on its heels with 27.8%. Discovery followed with 2.3% and the Cairo group with 1.5%.
Overall revenues in the Italian media sector fell in 2015 by 1.2% to 14.207 billion euros from 14.378 billion euros in 2014, Agcom said, adding however that the rate of decline in the industry had eased off compared to previous years.
Television and radio made up the largest part of the sector, accounting for 8.5 billion euros of revenues. Editorial revenues fell 7.5% to 3.998 billion euros, while Internet revenues rose 5.2% to 1.708 billion euros.
The newspapers sector saw revenues decline 5%, suffering from a fall in advertising income as well as sales.
Agcom said the crisis in the newspaper industry, which was also reducing the number of publications, had inevitable repercussions on the breadth and quality of information.
