Hourly wages in Italy fell 0.5% in
the first quarter of 2016 on the same period in 2015, Eurostat
said Friday, adding that wages in the EU went up by a yearly
1.7%. Italy was the only large country showing a fall. Italy is
also bucking the trend for overall labour costs, showing a 1.5%
Q1 fall while Europe showed, again, a 1.7% rise. Non-salary
costs fell the most sharply, by 3.9%. also thanks to tax breaks
for new hires.
