Italian energy giant ENEL on Monday
posted first-quarter profits 15.9% up at 939 million euros and
earnings 10.5% down to 17.8 billion euros.
The company has increased its competitiveness in spite of a
"challenging" macroeconomic picture, said CEO Francesco Starace.
ENEL has added more capacity from renewable energy sources
and fully integrated its ENEL Green Power division into the
group. As well, the company has benefited from simplification of
its Latin America divisions and that process should be completed
by the second half of the year, Starace said.
"We have already separated the Chile activities from those
in other Latin American countries and the new companies...were
listed on the New York and Santiago stock exchanges in April,"
the CEO said.
