The private Atlante fund to help
weaker Italian banks "has the capacity to do what it is
currently engaged in, also because it can activate the financial
lever at various levels," Intesa Sanpaolo President Gian Maria
Gros-Pietro said Thursday. He said Atlante was not yet involved
in helping the troubled Veneto Banca. Atlante was recently set
up to ease various issues in the Italian banking system,
especially by taking on their non-performing loans (NPLs).
