Luxottica Chairman and founder
Leonardo Del Vecchio said Wednesday that the eyewear company's
governance was in "excellent hands" adding that he was aiming to
eventually return to a non-executive role. Del Vecchio took back
an operative role late in January after Adil Mehboob-Khan quit
as joint-CEO, making him third chief executive to leave the
company in 18 months. Investor concerns about the company's
governance were heightened after it said on Tuesday that
Francesco Milleri, a close aide of Del Vecchio's, had been
appointed to the board. "The governance of this great company
today is in excellent hands," Del Vecchio, 80, said in a message
to investors. "In a few years I'd like to return to my role of
non-executive chairman and shareholder... I promise that the
group will be left to managers who developed within the group,
who are capable and in love with Luxottica, with a strong,
independent board that guarantees the interests of all
shareholders".
