Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) said Tuesday than an internal review staged in the wake of the Volkswagen scandal showed that its diesel engines respected emissions regulations. The US-Italian carmaker added that it was undertaking a voluntary upgrade of its Euro 6 engines. "FCA diesel vehicles do not have a mechanism to either detect that they are undergoing a bench test in a laboratory or to activate a function to operate emission controls only under laboratory testing," an FCA statement said. "In other words, although emission levels vary depending on driving conditions, the emission control systems of the FCA vehicles operate in the same way under the same conditions, whether the vehicle is in a laboratory or on the road. ""FCA diesel vehicles when tested following the only testing cycle prescribed by European law (NEDC) perform within the regulatory limits and comply with the relevant regulatory requirements".
