(FCA) CEO Sergio Marchionne said Monday that consolidation of
the car sector is inevitable, while ruling out a tie-up with
rivals General Motors.
"Consolidation is a linchpin of the development of the
industry," he said.
But, when asked what chance there was of a partnership
with GM, he replied "absolutely none".
Marchionne also said that the ambitious targets in FCA's
industrial plan up to 2018 are "feasible" and "closer" after the
company's positive performance last year.
"The 2018 plan is not easy but it is feasible," he said.
He also reiterated his backing for the reform agenda of
Italian Premier Matteo Renzi's government.
He said it is necessary to get rid of what Renzi describes
as ill wishers who bank on Italy failing and take a more
positive approach.
Italy can do "anything it wants," Marchionne said. "All you
need is the will to do it," said the FCA chief.
