The rest of the week will continue to
be sunny and hot in the south of Italy and most of the centre
while there will be five days of rainstorms in the north,
forecaster Lorenzo Tedici said Tuesday.
An extratropical cyclone, deepening outside Wales and heading
towards Normandy, will hover there for three-four days, bringing
bad weather to the north while it will be like summer in the
rest of the country and especially in the south, where
temperatures will be consistently higher than seasonal averages,
said Tedici, of the IlMeteo.it website.
"Italy will be split in two, or perhaps even three, with central
regions more similar to southern ones albeit with highs not
above 30-31°C, while they will hit 37-39°C in Sicily."
Tedici predicted some "120 millimetres of rain in the north,
more than usually falls in the whole of the month of May".
