The Humanity 1 on Saturday rescued 30
migrants and refugees from an overcrowded rubber boat in
distress in the Maltese search and rescue area.
The survivors, who had departed from Sabratha in Libya, included
four women and 11 minors, including a two-month-old boy.
"The rescued people are exhausted but their medical condition is
stable," said the German NGO SOS Humanity, which operates the
vessel.
Following the rescue the Italian authorities assigned the
Adriatic port of Ancona for disembarkation.
"This means four day of sailing, unnecessarily endangering the
condition and health of the rescued and vulnerable people,"
added the NGO.
