(ANSA) - GORIZIA - The President of the Republic of Slovenia,
Borut Pahor, awarded the director of Gorizia's ''Kulturni
dom'', Igor Komel, the ''Medalja za zasluge-Medal of Merit'',
for his 30-year commitment to cultural activities and
coexistence between peoples.
The ceremony was held in the Slovenian Presidency Palace, in
Ljubljana, last Thursday. Since 1987, Komel has been the
director of the 'House of Slovenian Culture' in Gorizia, which
aims to be a 'home' to the Isonzo cultures, that is the house of
coexistence between Slovenians, Italians and Friulians in Friuli
Venezia Giulia, and the place of good relationship with Slovenia
and for the Italian minority in Slovenia. Komel takes an active
part in several entities and organizations of the minority, and
is therefore an important point of reference for the Slovenian
Economic and Cultural Union (Skgz). (ANSA).
