Bucharest to host 2nd Moldova Support Conference
Support reform efforts to achieve goals for EU

Bogdan Aurescu will co-chair in Bucharest on Friday, along with
his German counterpart Annalena Baerboc and French Minister of
State for Development, Francophonie and International
Partnerships Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, the second edition of the
Moldova Support Conference ministerial meeting.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), representing Moldova at the meeting will be an important ministerial delegation led by Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari. Moldovan President Maia Sandu will give a virtual address at the opening of the conference.
The event will be attended by delegations from EU, G7 and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states, officials from the European Commission, the European External Action Service, as well as international financial institutions and international organizations, including the secretary-general of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OECD), the vice-president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representatives of the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and specialized agencies of the United Nations.
The Bucharest conference will focus on supporting Moldova's reform efforts, including achieving the goals set by the European Commission in its June 17, 2022 opinion, which proposed granting Moldova EU candidate status and was the basis for the late June European Council decision under which the status was granted. A key component will be the meeting of the five working groups of the Support Platform for Moldova, composed of government experts from participating states.
These groups work in key areas: the humanitarian situation of Ukrainian refugees hosted by Moldova; the fight against corruption; energy security; financial assistance and border management. During the meeting, the expansion of the working groups will be considered so that they can adequately respond to Moldova's reform needs. The first edition of the meeting took place on April 5 in Berlin and generated significant political, financial and technical support that directly benefited the country. According to the MFA, this international format under which Moldova enjoys in-depth support is essential amid an accumulation of crises besieging Moldova, especially in energy and economic terms, exacerbated by the consequences of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. Aurescu announced in Berlin that Romania will organize the second edition of the ministerial conference, taking into account Romania's special relationship with Moldova, based on a communion of language, culture and history, as well as a bilateral strategic partnership for Moldova's European integration launched in 2010. The Berlin conference generated financial commitments worth 659.5 million euros in loans, budget support and financial assistance, commitments to relocate 12,000 Ukrainian refugees from other countries to Moldova, and humanitarian aid worth 71.3 million.
