Kosovo:vote denied to Serbs, Belgrade-Pristina tension rises

Protests and mutual accusations. Kurti writes to the EU

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 25 - Tension rises between Belgrade and Pristina a few days before the April 3 vote in Serbia, denied to Kosovo Serbs, who will have to reach four sites in southern Serbia to vote. So decided last night the electoral commission in Belgrade, in the face of the adamant position of the leadership in Pristina, according to which it is "inadmissible" to organize elections in Kosovo, a sovereign and independent country, for a foreign state such as Serbia.

However, not recognizing Kosovo's independence, Serbia still considers the country part of its territory. Tensions grew due to the suspension of a Serbian judge of the Court of Kosovska Mitrovica yesterday, punished with a disciplinary measure for having participated in recent days to a meeting that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had in Belgrade with a political delegation of Kosovo Serbs. The Council of Judges of Kosovo, confirming today the suspension, has made it known that this measure has "in no way" a political meaning but is exclusive of disciplinary nature as the judge was absent without authorization from Belgrade. Kurti has sent a letter to the EU representation in Pristina denouncing the behavior of Belgrade, which continues to refuse to recognize the legal and sovereign institutions of independent Kosovo, still maintaining its structures in Kosovo.
