(ANSA-AFP) - WARSAW, 22 OTT - Poland's prime minister said
Wednesday he wanted "red zone" lockdown measures to be extended
to the entire country amid a record spike in infections. The
move came as Poland saw a new daily 24-hour record of 10,040
coronavirus cases on Wednesday Almost half of the country,
mostly large cities and surrounding areas, was already
designated a "red zone" last Saturday. "I will recommend that
from Saturday all of Poland will become a 'red zone," Prime
Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told the private Polsat TV station
ahead of a crisis team meeting that will formally decide on the
measure. Morawiecki had already advised "everyone who can to
work remotely" as of last week. All secondary schools in "red
zones" are shut and have switched to distance learning. Fitness
clubs and pools are also closed. Restaurants close at 9:00 pm
(1900 GMT), weddings are banned and there are strict limits on
the numbers of people allowed in shops and on public transport
and at religious services. (ANSA-AFP).
