(ANSA) - TRIESTE - The School, taking place from 20 to 24 July 2015 in Trieste, is organised by the OGS (Italian National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics) in collaboration with several partner-institutions and in line with the objectives of the EU Blue Growth Initiative. It targets researchers, scientists and managers from the Mediterranean Region and Black sea with focus on strengthening professional skills in the field of oceanography, marine sciences and blue growth.

The School is attended by about 40 participants including scientists, researchers and Ph.D. students as well as project managers, economists and policy-makers in relevant fields.

Selected candidates from the Mediterranean and Black Sea region have been granted fellowships for covering their travel and accommodation expenses. The mobility of some participants from the CEI region has been co-financed by the CEI.

Specific objectives of the Summer School include increasing the professional skills and the quality of research in the field of marine sciences, climate related aspects, environmental protection and integrated management of coastal areas; increasing the educational offer to extend the current economic development and growth, with particular focus on activities and aspects related to the sea, as well as identifying actions, partnerships and financing instruments that can help scale up activities that ultimately result in sharing research outcomes and disseminating scientific knowledge.

The EU Blue Growth initiative represents a long-term strategy to support growth in the maritime sector as a whole by harnessing the untapped potential of Europe's oceans, seas and coasts for jobs creation and economic growth. Establishing appropriate training and mobility opportunities for a new generation of marine scientists which possess both cross and multidisciplinary skills represents an important part of this strategy".(ANSA).
