Nikolic (Serbia) begs forgiveness for Srebrenica massacre

A year after denying 1995 slaughter of 8,000 Bosnian Muslims

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - In a YouTube video posted on Thursday, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic asked forgiveness for the July 1995 slaughter of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim civilians in Srebrenica. In today's video, a preview of an interview with Bosnian BHRT TV to be broadcast May 7, Nikolic stated he wants to ''kneel and beg forgiveness for the crimes committed in the name of our nation and our people'' by Serbians. This is a significant change since Nikolic denied Serbians ever committed the massacre in Srebrenica soon after taking office. The slaughter was carried out by Serbian-Bosnian troops under the command of Ratko Mladic, who is on trial for war crimes at the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. (ANSA).
