Dietary opportunities in Catania
Cultural exchange and women's traditions promotion
18 November, 10:45Speaker Marco Platania, researcher from the University of Catania, examined diet from the economic, cultural and geographic points of view, taking a close look at issues linked to food security and consumer choice processes, including as concerns societal changes. ''I wanted to draw attention to the issue of diet, since the CUG is open to the world and knows that there is a growing gap between us and developing countries,'' Spatafora said. ''Not everyone can eat daily or grow things on their own land, which is the subject of dispute and pillaged by exploitative policies.
We must promote a culture of sharing with those less fortunate.'' Special emphasis was given to the role of women in diet, and knowledge and traditions linked to the ability to feed oneself.
